In this video, I share the three excuses people give to play safe.
Whether it’s taking on a new job or promotion, expressing ourselves creatively, or investing in our personal development, making the decision to step into a new chapter can create a ton of resistance.
Below, I’ve listed each common excuse plus an alternative way of thinking about it. I’d love to hear which of these you relate to.
Excuse #1: Now is not a good time or I’m too busy.
Get Curious: Is business as usual still serving me?
The Invitation: My capacity expands when I have clear priorities and boundaries.
Excuse #2: I should be able to do this on my own.
Get Curious: Hyper-independence is a wound response. I am worthy of resources and support.
The Invitation: How can receiving support and guidance accelerate my growth?
Excuse #3: I’ll wait until I have more money.
Get Curious: What is the status quo costing me?
The Invitation: I invest in my priorities, value my own energy, and embrace opportunity.
Underlying all of these excuses are the following fears:
- What if I fail? (scary)
- What if I succeed? (scarier)
- Whom will I disrupt by owning my power? (scariest)
Change is a real process with real resistance. It can be both exhilarating and terrifying. In my experience, it’s best done in community with peers, mentors, and coaches.
The investment in focus and resources helps close the gap between where you are now and where you want to be.
